FINAL QUOTES OF THE WEEK!

Here are some food for thought this week--Yes! The final week of all this craziness!

Motivation gives the first push, but you need persistence and self discipline to get to the finish line.

"Good things come slow - especially in distance running." - Bill Dellinger, Oregon coach

“If you set a goal for yourself and are able to achieve it, you have won your race. Your goal can be to come in first, to improve your performance, or just finish the race. It's up to you.”
-Dave Scott

“The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.”
-Vince Lombardi

"The only reason I would take up jogging is so that I could hear heavy breathing again."
- Erma Bombeck

"If you start to feel good during an ultra, don't worry, you will get over it." - Gene Thibeault

“Pressure is nothing more than the shadow of great opportunity." - Michael Johnson

"I always loved running...it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs."
- Jesse Owens

"Top results are reached only through pain. But eventually you like this pain. You'll find the more difficulties you have on the way, the more you will enjoy your success."
- Juha "the Curel Vaatainen

I tell our runners to divide the race into thirds. Run the first part with your head, the middle part with your personality, and the last part with your heart." - Mike Fanelli, club coach

Seriously......

So I went running yesterday, I knew something felt off. So I realized my back was out of place ( it has been slipping in and out for the past few weeks). Well here is the problem with that I was able to run like 5 minutes and then my legs and feet when completely numb to where it made it hard to walk. Seriously I walked the rest of the way which was almost my whole run. It was very frusturating I was so uncomfortable and in so much pain. So then I got home thought well at least I walked it, started to not feel so good. Last night I got the worst sore throat I think I have ever had and woke up feeling like absolute poo. Lets just say I am very frusturated and hope I don't have strep throat. I am so afraid I am going to dissapoint next weekend especially if my back goes out I can't run. I am going to get it adjusted as much as I can before. As for running I can barely make it down the hall I feel so awful. Please pray for me hahaha I am so serious I need to be running right now not walking and not being sick. So discouraged!!!!!!!

Ladies, I've Broken my toe!

Holy crap!
I think the summer just hates me. so, this would be the fourth summer in a row that i have had some injury requiring bedrest. I have broken my big toe! yep, two weeks before our race. We were at the houseboat this week, as i was putting a bucket back down below the front, one of those big metal doors fell on my big toe....it was not a pleasant experience. i do have a replacement if you guys would like, or if you all have any runners you would rather put in my place, be my guest, i am leg 6, i hope they don't mind running up east canyon....

Show Girls for Red Rock Relay!?!?

Remember the RED ROCK RELAY I posted about earlier?

It's a relay race similar to the Wasatch Back, 180 miles roughly from BrianHead ski resort to St. George via Bryce Canyon and Zion's.  Gorgeous, obviously!

So anyway... our great friend is putting it on. He's willing to give us all FREE running shirts (nice, polyester, technical shirts) if we'll wear them during the Wasatch Back to advertise for the Red Rock Relay. They will be there promoting the race as well.  I figured getting sweaty during three legs we're not all going to be wearing the same outfit each time.  I thought if we all could just wear the shirt for at least one leg that would be great.

This is what they look like:

The sizes are men's sizes and they have some youth large.  I am wearing a men's small in this picture.

So... what do you all think?  Do you want to be a part of the inaugural year of the sweetest relay race ever?!?

Kari Evans

Hey Girls, I am the new comer. I live in AZ and will be moving to UT in just a few weeks. I am excited to meet you and run with you!!! I think hills will be a challanging concidering AZ is so flat, but I am ready. I am most worried about the weather. AZ has been in the 100 degrees for a few weeks now. I just might freeze, I guess that is not the thing I should be the most worried about.

Frightening Realization!!!

I just came to the realization that I am currently training at sea level and will continue to do so until the race. I will then have to come back to Utah and run at 6,000 feet! I AM GOING TO DIE!!!! Why did you have to remind me of this Sara? You should seriously all pray for me!

P.S. Megan (great name by the way), I sent your money yesterday. It should arrive soon!

OFFICIAL START TIME!!!

**7:40 a.m.**

Rise and Shine! That is our official race start time!! It's a little earlier then I wanted!!! YIKES!!!

*Jared's is like at 12:45 p.m.*--That tells you their team is CRAZY fast!!
---I told him to watch out for our GIRL POWER!! Oh ya!!!

Hills Yesterday

Whitney had to push me through our hill run yesterday! I struggled so much during that run and was so tired after, I was pretty discouraged! I was thinking... How am I going to be able to do this relay race? How am I going to be able to run the St. George Marathon in October? (YEAH!!! My husband and I got in!) I need to lose some weight!!

Those were my thoughts last night.  But that quote from Angie picked me up today! I can do it, no matter how S - L - O - W I go!  And, that run was hard, but I finished--so that's picking me up too!

Thanks Whit and Ang! :)

And Thanks Sara for your shirt money!

TEAM SHIRTS

THIS POST HAS BEEN EDITED. PLEASE READ AGAIN. :)

We've decided to get this as our team shirt.
We are going to look pretty professional--and cute, all matchy-matchy!

We need to prepay for these shirts.
I need everyone's money by Friday, May 15!
You can mail me a check or pay through PayPal.
I sent an email with details of how to do both.

Thanks ladies!

P.S. Anyone want to give color ideas? The shirt is a silver/grey.  Let's do two colors for the wording probably.  We can have the words outlined in a different color and different colors for front and back, etc.  I love this silver/grey color but if we want black or something else that's fine too!

Another Relay

My husband's friend, Matt Ward, has started the REDROCK RELAY debuting September 4, 2009.  If anyone wants to run another relay I'm putting together a team! We'll talk after we conquer the Wasatch Back though, right?
It's 180 miles through Brianhead Resort, Cedar Breaks Ntl. Monument, Dixie National Forest, Zions and St. George.  I don't think there could be a more gorgeous place to run!!

TRI Mom's

The Triathlon over the weekend went well for both Rosie and I. I was in the lead for the whole race until Rosie snaked by me in the run and finished 42 seconds in front of me! She is a good 'lil runner. Even with her IT bands "on fire".

The swim portion was absolutely awful for both of us. I did the breast stroke the entire time! And I think Rosie did too. I couldn't even put my face under the water. I really enjoyed the bike and so did Rosie except when she had to lean to one side and throw-up! The run was tolerable for me. I had a huge side ache for most of it. Also, it was all trail running so it was a little bit difficult to navigate where you were putting your foot down.
The finish line was the best part!

I ran about 4 miles outside today. It fealt really good but also told me I need to really work hard to get where I need to be by the time the race is here. If anyone ever wants to go run outside with me in the early am let me know I would love to have a running partner but be advised I am pretty slow and out of shape. Hope everyones running and having fun doing it. Tell next time......

Fun Run in the Sun

Hey Ladies-
I am back from sunny Mexico and proud to announce that I ran 4 times while there. Scenery definately makes a difference! We had a really nice, long, and flat road right in front of our house so that is where I ran. I tried running on the beach one day but the sand was too soft and the beach sloped too much. Can't wait to see you all on the 30th!

Aloha!!

Well Ladies sorry to brag but I just had the most beautiful run along the Hawaii coast. What a difference scenery makes. Lovin every minute of it.

TEAM GEAR!!

1
2

3

TIME FOR YOU TO VOTE!
First, what are you interested in for our team gear? Are you interested in long-sleeve, short-sleeve, tank, sweatshirt, t-shirt, pants, shorts, hats, backpacks, water bottles...?
The above pictures are dri-mesh (active type) shirts. They come in a variety of colors. (My favorite is the top silver one!) A long-sleeve would be good for night running.
Approximate pricing:
t-shirts-$5
sweatshirts-$17
dri-mesh long-sleeve-$18
dri-Mesh short sleeve-$13
(I'll have to find out the rest)
We can also find our own merchandise anywhere and have it imprinted with our team name. We can do embroidery, screen printing and vinyl lettering.
Second, what do we want imprinted on our shirts? Front, back, a picture, team name, individual names, etc...
Be thinking about these things, post or comment your ideas and we'll begin to finalize some things for the meeting!

THANKS!!

I went and invested in some good shoes...And now I am back to the "GRIND" literally. haha.

I will say I love the way I feel after I run though.
Well  I am heading out of town, and guess what's coming with me??

Motivation Please.....

I don't know what my deal is but I have been lagging very much so in the running department. I am doing my running don't get me wrong but I am not loving it like I usually do. I am having a real hard time enjoying myself while I run and I don't like that feeling. So if any of you have any words of wisdom to share with me to get me out of this funk it would so greatly be appreciated. Thanks an hopefully running will put a smile back on my face soon.......

Triathlon Anyone?

I know this is our WBR blog but I stumbled across this triathlon that looked like fun. It is the Daybreak Tri for Huntsman Cancer Research. I know you all will have the racing bug after the WBR and will be looking for the next adventure. This just might be it. Check it out!

p.s. I got my stitches out today and am excited to start running again. I have done my elliptical 4x this week so I hope I can pick up where I left off with the running. I hope the weather stays nice so everyone can get some Vit D and run outside :)

Running outside....

Today I ran outside with my jogging stroller. We took Zeus for about 2 miles and then he pooped out, so we took him home and ran 3 more. It felt great, it was such a nice day today. Carson even wanted to get some running in to, so cute.

Taking a little break

Well, today I am going in for carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand. This puts me out for any running training for a week to 10 days. I will be starting from square one once I can start running again. Aaaarrrggghhh! I wouldn't even get the surgery but my carpal tunnel is so bad my hand is numb while sleeping, swimming, biking, sitting, laying down. It is pretty much numb most of the time. Lame! So keep up the good work girls and I will just have to train that much harder to catch up.

Wish me luck!

Music?

I need some really good music to listen to out there on the road. I am so sick of all my songs on my ipod. I want to know what you all rock out to while you are jogging your little hearts out. Then lets put together a killer mix tape (ha ha what am I? In the 80's?) to listen to. I think this will really help me out this week. Because for some reason its been way harder for me to get motivated this week then last.

Happy Running to all.

Quote of the Week!

"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start" -John Bingham

**The quote above is by far one of my favorites for running! I have subscribed to Runner's World now for over 13 years and John Bingham is one of the best athletic writers. His monthly articles are always so inspiring. I highly suggest you read them! His claim is "No need for speed!" I hope you all are enjoying your runs!

I finally ran outside on Sunday in the gorgeous weather and I loved it! It is been well over a year since I had done this and I realized how much I missed it! My 8 miles were slow but I made it through them!

Keep up all the great work!
Happy Trails-

I am so glad it is over.
Today was really hard, i kept wanting to stop...but stayed strong.
The problem with me is my brain lets me talk my way out of it..
I wish I had more will power.
Glad I get a break tomorrow.

Happy Valentines Day!

prepare for long post

I've been feeling so great that I think I'm going to jump ahead to the week of Feb. 15 on the novice training program and run 4 times this week for 15 min. each. (that's only one week ahead) I like when I'm ahead of schedule... it gives me some breathing room just in case! :) Loving this though, I'm so excited to be able to run more and longer

Three summers ago I ran a half marathon (it's been my claim to being in shape for the last three years..."oh yah, I ran a half marathon...a couple years ago, but still...") But here's just a little motivation for you all.  When I started training for this race I could run 1/2 mile--barely.  I ran 1/2 mile three times the first week, 1 mile three times the second week, 1 1/2 miles the third week, 2 miles the fourth week and so on until I could run 10 miles.  Then I ran the entire 13 point whatever miles with adrenaline, having fun and pushing myself along the way!  It helps me to think back to this and know that I can do anything! And you can too! No matter where you are beginning.  On the days you don't want to run, just do it... You won't regret doing it but you will regret not doing it!  I also ran a couple of 5k's and a 10k while I was training and that was fun to get into the spirit of racing! So maybe we should sign up for a few before the big relay... I'd love to if anyone else does too!

Oh yah... and last night I had a dream that we won the relay. Only it was an indoor obstacle course (picture olympic gymnastics mixed with american gladiators) and for the awards ceremony we had to wear matching prom dresses... but our team didn't bring any and we were wearing jeans. Then I woke up.

Let it Snow, let it Snow..

So I woke up this morning all ready for a little jaunt and I walked out side to Snow! (Gotta love Utah). Now normally I would have walked right back in and curled up in bed, but not today. Thanks to a friend in my neighborhood that was meeting me at 6:55 a.m. I put my shoes on and headed out the door. I went out and ran for a good 25 minutes and it felt great today even with the snow. Guys I think that I might be able to do this.

IB 800 To The Rescue

I am SORE! I'm going to be like Elsha and take an IB Pro-fen 800 tonight!

Yesterday I felt like a runner....

I finally got my Friday run in on Sunday night. I ran in a beautiful state park outside of Phoenix. Instead of a 15 min run I did 30 and felt great the whole time. I was even able to control my speed and do some intervals. Was it the lower Arizona elevation that made this run so great? I don't know but I think I felt the 'runner's high'. Happy training this week.

Rain, Rain Go Away!!

Stuck inside the fifth wheel with babies and family!! I wish I was running! Whit is helping me through this new blogging process right now! Thanks Whit! Are we sure we are in Arizona? It is raining like CRAZY!!!!

Thank goodness for ipods!

I finally made an effort to run on the treadmill at the gym. I did a solid 30 mins (3 miles). It wasn't fun. Running on the treadmill is never fun! Fortunatly, I had some good music and made myself push through it. At the end it felt good, more than good!! I can't decide if running on the treadmill or running outside with the double stroller & whinny kids is better. Who knows?!!

Speaking of good music; I want to hear the playlist that you have been rockin to while running . . .

So tired.....

I did my fifteen minutes on friday but was a bit tired from working out before that. It was alot better since I ran at a 7.0 this time instead of a 7.8 so I could catch my breath the whole time. Knowing that everyone else is running is such a good boost while I am. You go girls.......

Friday, February 6, 2009

Barely 15

I got my 15 minutes in today. But BARELY!!!! I ran a little over 1 mile.

***Only problem I have been having is bad headaches after I run..Any ideas??

I am such a giver

My jogging stroller wouldn't fit when we packed the van and the truck for Arizona so I had to leave it behind. I really wanted to go for a run Friday but Dustin had a day full of his own race stuff and I got the shaft. All day I said to myself, "If only I had my stroller I could go for a run". But since I am such a giver I will let Dustin do his race thing Friday and Saturday and I will run on Sunday. It is no big deal. Plus, my legs are still sore from body pumb on Wednesday.

Whitney

stepped it up two notches...

I did my second fifteen-er today and I ran at 4.4 on the treadmill instead of 4.2! haha That is so slow, I know! But I have short legs and I've been sick so... whatever.  At least I did it and it felt good!  I can't wait to find matching outfits... .

15 Felt Good

Whitney here. I did my fifteen minutes of running on the treadmill Wednesday and it felt good. I just ran at a comfortable 5.5 pace and could have gone longer but I was late for a body pump class. Now my legs are so sore and I wish I would have just taken a hot bath like Lindsay. Ha, Ha! Can't wait to run in sunny AZ tomorrow. Happy training!

NO PAIN, NO GAIN!!

I am so excited to hear that everyone is running!! I can not even begin to tell you all how excited I am about this whole thing. I have not worked out in years, but I am loving getting back into the swing of things. Along with the suggested training I started these crazy work-out videos that Erin let me borrow. I can not even explain how sore I am! I had to take 3 Motrin today so that I can even walk. Not to sound cheesy, but I keep reminding myself "NO PAIN, NO GAIN". Good Luck Everyone!!

I took the day off....

I was going to run outside this morning, I even had my workout get-up on.   But plain and simple it was just to damn cold, and a hot bath sounded more relaxing while the kids were @ school.  :)

But I did run 2 miles on Monday
and 1 Mile yesterday.

My body is SORE...but in a good way. I'm loving it!

Hopefully tomorrow the hot bath doesn't tempt me.

My First Run

I did my first run today! Just a good old 15 minutes on the treadmill, just like the training program said....

Way to go girls.....

It sounds like everybody is doing great and is really motivated. Good job Jessie for running outside and thanks to Lindsay who motivated me to do my run yesterday. I was having a hard time running cause I trained right before with my trainer but I knew I had to get in my first 15 minute run on the treadmill. So to get me through I thought of Lindsay earlier that morning running 2 miles in 20 minutes prior to me ( you go girl ). So I kept thinking Lindsay did it so can I so thank you Lindsay. Yeah girls keep it up cause it's only going to get harder but we can do it.....

I can do it..you can do it..

So Mommies; I went running today. (Outside even) Yep I know closes your mouths ladies I am still in shock too. I would have to say that I almost hated every minute. But its done and over with and the first time is always the hardest. So I am just patting myself on the back...
